4th of July Onesie Tutu

With an expected high of 100F here in Colorado today, it's a good day to stay inside and blog..... about these cool tutu onesies! (If we reach 101F we'll break another Colorado record - 2 days in a row.)

I hadn't given tutu onesies much thought, though a little, until a customer requested one for the 4th of July. She had seen one on a retailer's website that she liked (manufactured), but wanted me to modify the design to be a 4th of July outfit. I did tutu ruffles similar to what I do on my leg warmers in red, white, and blue around the hips / waist of the tutu. In this picture the tutu isn't fluffed yet. Once all done the layers are fluffed to give a really poofed look. The bow she requested tops the tutu off very nicely.

She chose an American Flag Heart studded design for her tutu onesie. I want to learn to applique, but will have to have my aunt, an applique expert (IMO) to teach and give me a few pointers. (My mom's pretty good at it too.) Until then, it will have to be simple iron-on designs and adding embellishments - such as flowers.

It all came together with removing the sleeves and hemming it into a tank-style onesie and adding a fluff of tulle for cap sleeves.

Baby Girl loves to be upside-down. Here she is modeling my first tutu onesie run through. I wanted to make sure the tutu ruffles were anatomically lining up correctly. Sure enough, as low as they can be and right across the upper gluts and hips. Perfect. I could also do them down across the butt for some super cute bloomers, but then they would be sat on.

This one I did 3/4 around, leaving a gap in the front, like my customer's picture had. It looks a little bit odd like this on an older baby / toddler, especially without a design on the front yet. After adding the red ruffle, Nellie wore this out with long beaded necklaces. It was adorable, but I didn't have my camera or phone with to take a picture. The 3/4 wrapped tutu would be great for little babies that spend time on their tummy.

Here's the backside, tutu still needs fluffing. In my opinion, I like the tutu all the way across and around. This way it can be stand-alone cute. Imagine just this with a bow like above.

Completed with a red, silver, and blue guitar & stars design! We're a little bit of a rock 'n roll family (with hubby owning a recording studio and a self-proclaimed music freak), so I had picked up 2 of these designs.

I have a few more 4th of July designs left.... Be sure to use the coupon code "BIRTHDAY20" for 20% off your entire June order. Link to CUSTOM ONESIE TUTU listing.  I can do them in any size, Newborn through 2T.
